About the facility
Pension "Čarapićev brest" is located in one of the most popular Belgrade picnic places, on Mount Avala, at 310 meters above sea level. During the '90s, the pansion was left to oblivion, to revive in 2003, when renovated. Capacity of pension is 50 beds in rooms of various structures (double, triple and quadruple) with private bath. The restaurant in our pension, has a large hall with 150 seats, a small hall with 80 seats, a large and a small terrace with 200, or 80 seats. Small room suitable for the organization seminars, presentations and other events. It has a projector and projection screen, as well as other audio-video devices, which are necessary for such meetings. Great Hall because of its capacity and interior, is an ideal place for wedding and other celebrations. Mount Avala, and together with "Čarapićev brest", provide numerous opportunities for sport and recreational character: indoor football, volleyball, basketball, handball, cycling tracks, seven hiking trails, which can be visited with professional help guides, artificial rocks, orienteering school for ages 5 to 90 years.

Our guides will take you to walk on narrow mountain trails of Avala. In dense forests of Avala there are seven marked hiking trails. - Organize a sports tournament, volleyball, basketball and handball in our courts which are only 30m from lodge. - Explore Avala on mountain bikes. Ride along the marked trails for mountain biking and running with a total altitude difference of 120m and a total length of 6 km. - Feel the adrenaline in your veins on our artificial climbing rock. Experienced instructors will monitor your every step and take care of your safety. - Learn something new. Our school for orientation exists more than 30 years as well as training ground for sport orientation, which is sutable for everyone from 5 to 90 years.

Monument to the Unknown Soldier After World War II, the locals have found a number of graves of Serbian soldiers killed in action, including the tomb of an Unknown soldier. The people of the surrounding villages built a modest monument in 1922nd. Later, the State Board of monuments decided to raise a more representative monument on top of Avala . The project for a monumentwas done by the sculptor Ivan Mestrovic, in the form of the mausoleumrepresenting women in traditional costumes from all over Yugoslavia. The monument is built of Jablanica granite from 1934. to 1938. year. For the purpose of construction of this monument in 1934th medieval city Zrnovowas blown with the dynamite. Serbia is different from all the participating countries of the First World War by the fact that all other countries have monuments to the Unknown Soldier, and only Serbia has monument to the Unknown Hero. Nearby is the monument to Soviet war veterans who have been killed in a plane crash on 19th October 1964th. Avala Tower At the lower top of Avala, built in 1965. there is Avala TV tower, designed by architects Uglješa Bogdanovic and Slobodan Janjic, which was destroyed in NATO bombing on 29th of April 1999. The tower was the tallest building in the former Yugoslavia. In 2010 the tower was fully reconstructed and opened to visitors. Medieval town Zrnovo On Avala mountain there was medieval town with the same name. The Serbs called it Zrnovo but the Turks named it Avala (Arabic for dam or barrier). It is not known when it was first built, although its surroundings was inhabited even in prehistoric times.
