Altitude - terrain slope, gradually decreases from west to east (with exception of central hills), so the region is mostly characterized by moderate to steep slopes where vineyards are situated. In central part of the region, slopes of mountains are slightly steeper going from north to south, especially on the eastern side. Vineyards are mostly situated on south, south east, and east expositions.

Types of soil are ranker, sierozem, litosol on sandstone, flysch and cherts, litosol on slates and gneiss and soils in leaching, as well as vertisol and i euteric cambisol. Less represented are other types of soil. In the area covered in vineyards most common are vertisol, euteric cambisol, and sandy soils.

Topographic - relief characteristics of this region are mountain Miroc (768 m) to the north east of the region, low mountain Veliki greben (656 m) on the west, and to the south west there is mountain Deli Jovan (1136 m). Slopes of these mountains (belonging to Kharpato-Balkan mountain system) and hilly terrains of the west part are characteristic for this region. Relief, from mountain tips and hills on the west, gradually turns into mildly hilly to flat terrains on the east; it ends at the banks of river Danube.

Through north, north east, and south east part of the region are cut by the river Danube, which has influence on ripening of the grapes in the area close to banks due to increased diffuse radiation originating in big mirror or the river surface. Danube also has impact on microclimate in the area around the river during winter too, since sudden changes in temperatures are mitigated, and that makes threat of winter frost less.

On the slopes of mountain Deli Jovan there are rich forests with certain impact on wine production in the eastern part of the region. In the west and central parts of the region, in the hilly - mountain zone, forest of oak, Turkey oak, red oak are predominant, while on higher grounds there are mountain forests of beech. In the area of river Timok, which flows through south part of the region, there are flood forests of red oak, ash, willow, poplar, and other.
