1.5. Toplica region - Toplica

Toplica region includes vineyard terrains of municipalities of Blace, Prokuplje, Merosina, Doljevac and Zitoradja, along entire basin of the river Toplica and its tributaries, most of all rivers Veliki and Mali Jastrebac. Region extends from 43° 23' geographic latitude on north to 43° 02' geographic latitude on south, at altitudes of 200 m to 550 m. Area covered in vineyards has altitudes of mostly 250 m to 400 m.

1.5. Toplički rejon - Toplica

Altitude gradually decreases from north west and south west toward south east and central parts of the region, and the is characterized by mild slopes (north and western parts) to gentle slopes (in eastern part) where vineyards are located. It's also characterized by different expositions, but vineyards are mostly situated on south, south east, and east expositions, as well as on top of the hill and on plateaus.

Types of soil characteristic for this region are euteric cambisol and vertisol, and less often fluvisol, as well as other types. Topographic - relief characteristics of the region are mountains on the north,  Veliki Jastrebac (1492 m) aqnd Mali Jastrebac (946 m), that constitutetwo massifs of Jastrebac (they belong to the Rhodope mountains). On the south there are mountains Vidojevica (1155 m) and Pasjaca (901 m)  (also part of the Rhodope mountains). East part of the region is mildly hilly and with flat terrains in direction of the river Juzna Morava.

Most common forests of the region are forests of common oak and Turkey oak, while on the mountain slopes forests of beech are most common. In the area near rivers there are misty and flood forests of red oak, ash, willow, alder, and poplar.

River Toplica flows through the region. This is the most remarkable river among all other rivers,  which are Alabanska river, Bresnicka river, and Devcanska river; Juzna Morava makes west border of the region. Area of the river Toplica influences landscape characteristics of the region.

Near Prokuplje river Toplica flows through narrow canon called Hisarski tesnac, after which it flows into valley Dobrica and until it flows into Juzna Morava it has appearance of lowland river with noticeably serpentine basin. Region is rich in orchards, most of all with cherries, and especially Jug Bogdan vineyards.
