Bor

Municipality of Bor is situated in eastern Serbia, in the Bor district, in Timocka Krajina. The center of the municipality is the city of Bor. During the transition from the old to the new era, Bor and its surroundings shared destiny of the good part of Europe. This area was under the Roman rule, and there are a few stories about the time of the Roman arrival.


After conquering our regions the Romans gained control of natural resources, especially mineral resources. So they established settlements in the territory of Bor with mining-metallurgical character. In the early Middle Ages, the territory of Bor was under the rule of Emperor Dusan, and after Nikopolje battle in 1436 it fell under Turkish rule as part ot Vidinski Sandzak. After liberation, Prince Milos has actively participated in arranging the situation in this part of Serbia. Establishment of mine happened in 1903, after the research funded by Djordje Vajfert.The establishment of the mine was a key moment for the development of Bor and its surroundings. Since then, Bor began to develop and grow rapidly. In the period from 1933 to 1940, Bor received its first settlement. Status of town Bor got after the World War II, namely on 30th of May, 1947.

The most significant event is tourist event "spa days". During that event, a series of concerts, art colony, Preobrazenje fair, fashion shows are held, and plays from a well-known ensemble from Belgrade is not unusual.
