According to tradition, Bosilegrad was named after King Bus (Busilu), who ruled this territory until the Turkish invasion. With the arrival of the Turks, the population of this region scattered, so it remained bleak. Demographic reconstruction was carried out in 1600.

The center of cultural events in Bosilegrad is the Cultural Center of Bosilegrad. The Center organized numerous competitions, performances and concerts. All of this complements the cultural and information center ‘Caribrod’ held since 2003. The city has an art colony.
