Ethnographic Museum

Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade was founded in 1901, separating the Ethnographic Department of the National Museum, which makes it one of the oldest museums on the Balkan Peninsula. After a couple of moves, the Ethnographic Museum is housed since 1952 in the building of the former stock exchange sazgrađene 1934.


The museum is collecting and classifying objects in museum collections, scientific research, conservation and restoration treatment and care, as well as educational and pedagogical work. It has about 200 000 museum exhibits, of which one-third of ethnographic objects, divided into 32 collections in the form of furniture, jewelery, customs, folk costumes, folk architecture, economy, animal husbandry, transport, cult objects, etc. It has a permanent exhibition "The folk culture of the Serbs in XIX and XX century", the organizer of the International Festival of Ethnographic Film, as well as temporary exhibitions, workshops, courses and lectures. The museum is responsible for the Manakov house which houses the ethnographic collection of painter Hristifor Crnilovic.
