Kladovo
Kladovo is located in Eastern Serbia, and belongs to the Bor district. Center of the municipality is a the city of Kladovo, on the river Danube. Kladovo is one of the older cities along the Danube, and raise of settlements is associated with the civil military camp, which the Romans founded at the border, known as Zanes.
When the camp was destroyed, Slavs built their village of Novi Grad on its foundations.With the construction of the Turkish fortress Fetislam, Novi Grad more and more looses Slavic character.Under the present name Kladovo is first mentioned in Austrian military document where Wallachia hajduk’s attact to the city in 1596 was recorded.
Sights:
- ‘Lepenski vir’. Ancient settlement on the right bank of the river Danube nearly 8000 years old, one of the most important monuments of the prehistoric man.
- Diana Fort built during the Emperor Trojan in the period of his campaigns in Dacia in the II century AD.
- The rameins of the Trojan’s bridge, and Trojan’s plate.
- Fetislam fortress. The most important monument of the more recent past raised by the Turks after the conquest of those parts of Serbia. It is thought that the fortress was built in 1524.
- Djerdap gorge National park.
