Knjazevac
Knjazevac is located in the eastern part of Serbia, along the border with the Republic of Bulgaria, and is a part of Timocka Krajina. Knjazevac and its surroundings were inhabited even in prehistoric times. This is witnessed by numerous remains of material culture found in archaeological sites in this area. Although there is still no reliable evidence, Knjazevac was created on the foundations of a Roman fort Great Timok (Timacum majus).
Knjazevac got its present name on 17th January of 1859, when Prince Milos Obrenovic stayed here, and ordered that infamous Gurgusovac Tower should be destroyed, along with the dungeon in which (starting from 1843) opponents of the dynasty Karadjordjevic were imprisoned.
Tourist Center in Stara Planina is the greatest potential of this region. Knjazevac is known for cultural-historical monuments, first of all archeo-ethno-park Ravna. A reconstructed house from the XIX century, and lapidarium exhibits from archaeological sites of Timacum from the Roman period, located near Knjazevac, are held in park. Knjazevac is known for quality wines and wineries.
"Prayer under Midzor" and "Sabor at the Kadibogazu" are the most famous events that take place in the municipality of Knjazevac. These events have saved tradition and ancient customs of preparation of traditional dishes, saying people's stories and songs, perform of the traditional folk music from the oblivion.
