Loznica
Loznica municipality is located in Central Serbia, and it belongs to Macva district. Municipal Center is the city of Loznica. Population of this region, since prehistoric times, is witnessed by many archaeological findings. Ad Drinum is the oldest settlement, and ates from Roman times.
Loznica is first mentioned in the Charter of King Milutin, when Katarina, wife of Milutin's brother Dragutin, built nearby monastery Tronosa (in 1317). The name probably came from the word Lozica due to the large number of vineyards. Village Loznica became city in 1834.
During World War II, from 16th to 20th August of 1914. Cerska battle took place near Loznica, in which the Serbian army defeated the Austro-Hungary. Second Battle of the end of the First World War was the end of the Battle of Macak stone, from 18th to 23th September of 1914. Kolubara battle, the third battle in this area, began with Austria-Hungary offensive on 6th of October 1914. General attack on the Second Army, which held positions at the foot of Jadar and Macva. After the battles of Drina and Gucevo and heavy losses, Serbian army withdrew to Kolubara. Loznica was liberated on 2nd of November 1918.
Creation of Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes fundamentally changed the position of Jadar. Once at the border, it became a county deep in the interior of the new state. Quiet life of the Loznica residents ended wneh the Second World War begun. Loznica was released on 23rd September, 1944.
