Villages of Gornji Milanovac municipality

Gornji Milanovac is located in the central part of Serbia, between mountains Maljen Suvobor, Rajac, Rudnik, Jesevac, Vujan and Kablar. Massife Rudnik has a dominant position with nine peaks over 1,000 meter high. At the foot the old mountain are sources: Mlakovac, Svrackovci, Savinac and Brdjani. Nature has endowed this region with mountains and picturesque wooded grounds, and clean streams, making the area attracttive in all four seasons.


History placed a number of events in this area, and people behind whome cultural and historical monuments are preserved. Creation of the first Serbian state began in Takovo, under the flag of Milos Obrenovic, which is testified by a museum, church, log cabins, and other monuments of Serbian Uprising. Legendary vojvoda Misic commanded Suvoborska Kolubara battle from the oldest court building in Serbia.

The municipality has 63 villages, each of which is connected by asphalt road with city and other villages. Villages signifficant for the rural tourism are: Kostunica, Savinac, Mine and Leusići.

Kostunici is located 25 km from Gornji Milanovac, and the same from Cacak. Industrial complex of healthy food ‘Ethno-art’ is situated in Kostunici, as well as tourist complex which consists of ethno house ‘Andjelija Misic’, ethno museum ‘Prodanovic Magaza’, historical museum, and a hotel ‘Milica and Panajoti’. Guest accommodation is provided in the village and lodges, in picturesque wooden houses, apartment type.

Rudnik is a town at the foot of the mountain with the same name covered with lush forests and numerous roads and trails that lead to archaeological sites, monasteries and peaks Vracevsnica, Voljavca and Nikolje. With paths it is easy ro reach the volcanic cone Ostrvica, which represents a challenge for mountaineers. Top Ostrvica ends with the walls of Jerina’s city. In the center of town are hotels ‘Neda’, ‘Forest House’, children's summer camp, numerous sports fields, etc..

Savinac is hamlet of village Sarani, 4 km away from Takovo. Legend says that Saint Sava walked here, and that the hoof print of his horse can be seen in the stone. Milos Obrenovic raised his first endowment here in the memory of his wife Princess Ljubica. Here lie the remains of Vuk’s daughter Mina, artist and poet. There is a belvedere saved from the Milos’s time. For accommodation guests can use a number of cottages and rooms in the village.

Leusici was first mentioned in 1718, and were named after its founder Lej. With its natural beauty, vast pastures and colorful flowered meadows, Leusici differ from other villages, so one remembers them by it. There is a tourist event in Leusici rightly named ‘flower meadows’. The very name of the event is chosen for its character and content, dedicated to nature and beauty of the village dominated by the flowery meadows. Accommodation is organized in the holiday house ‘Cvet livade’.
