Villages of Knic municipality
It is not unknown that not all parts of Sumadija are as beautiful as Gruza. Surrounded on all sides by mountain ranges of Rudnik, Ramac Visovi, Gledic mountains, Kotlenik and Jesevac, it is protected from the strong winds during the winter, and from the great heat in summer. It is a true oasis for relaxation and recreation. With its fertile plains, low hills, orchards, hospitable people, rich cultural heritage and historical monuments, Gruza can provide tourists with a diverse and quality offering.
The central part of Gruza is Knic municipality with 36 picturesque villages. In the central part of the municipality, in the lower course of the river Gruz, is a lake which because of the quantities and types of fish, is one of the richest lakes in Serbia. Gruza hunting area is rich in various kinds of wild animals - rabbits, roe deer, pheasant, partridge, quail and wild duck, and organized hunting is possible.
Of the numerous cultural and historical monuments remains of the medieval town, church from the XIV century in Borca, and monastery Kamenac from the XV centuary in Cestina stand out in particulary.
Borac is located 13 km from Knic. By its history and natural beauty it is one of the most interesting Gruz’s villages. The entire area is dominated by Borac’s crest on top of which are the remains of the medieval town from the time of Despot Stefan Lazarevic, and at the foothills is a church built in 1350. The Church is on three sides protected by steep cliffs, and by ancient linden trees on the fourth, so it is visible only when one stands in front of it.
Boracka river gives this area something special, it inspired many painters and poets. Art colony called ‘Gruz’s Autumns’ is held every year.
Grabovac is 2 km from Knic. Flora and fauna, cultural-historical monuments near by, hospitality of the people, and preserved nature and traditional customs of this area are the main features of the tourist offer.
