Srbobran

Srbobran municipality is located in Vojvodina, and belongs to the South Backa District. Center of municipality is the city Srbobran, which mostly lies on the left, and by small part on the right bank of the Grand Backa canal.


Its present name Srbobran got after the moat-fortification symbolically called ‘Srbobran’, built for defense in the battles that took place in Srbobran in 1848 and 1849, when people fought for autonomy and national rights of Serbs in the former Austro-Hungary.

Cultural Historical monuments:

  • Church St. Bogojavljenje (built from 1787 to 1807)
  • Chapel of St. Djordje from the 1884th
  • Roman Catholic Church of St. Cross from 1815
  • Church of St. Nikola in Turija from 1750
  • Serbian Orthodox Church of Rodjenje Svetog Jovaja Krstitelja in Nadalj, from 1813.
