Ram Fortress

Ram is a fortress on the river Danube, 25 km from Pozarevac, and 15 km from Veliko Gradiste. Located on a rock that descends toward Danube from the northwest. It is assumed that the fortress across the Ram was a fortress of Haram, but not much is known. It is not known when the Ram was built, but is one of the oldest forts in the region.

The earliest record dates from 1128, when Vizantnci defeated the Hungarians in its vicinity. Ram has an irregular five sided base, with maximum length of 34m, and width of 26m. City is made of 5 towers on four levels (3 floors and basement), one in each point, and 3 on the western, and 2 on the eastern wall. Ram is still preserved quite well. The towers are in good shape, except the Southeast one, whose front part is almost completely destroyed. Walls of the fortress are in solid state, while only a traces of the small wall remain.
