Zitiste

Zitiste municipality is located in Vojvodina, and belongs to the Central Banat District. A municipality center is the town of Zitiste settled on the left bank of the river Begej.


The first mention of the name of Begej of St. Djurdje dates from the 1319th. After the Austro-Turkish wars the settlement was completely depopulated. Serb border guards from Pomorisje settled there in 1751, and in 1753 the settlement was marked as a Serb village. The place is called Zitiste since the 1947th.

Tourism:

- Area of Zitiste has a very rich offer, and the long tradition of hunting tourism. Hunting societies exist in every populated area

- Fishing in the municipality of Zitiste has a long tradition. Through the municipality Zitiste river Begej and Begej channel run, and aside to the rich rivers with many species of fish there are artificial lakes suitable for sport fishing.
