1.7. Region of Nisava - Nisava

Region of Nisava includes vineyard terrain covering narrow valley of middle basin of the river Nisava, and it includes territory of municipals of Bela Palanka, Pirot, Dimitrovgrad and Babusnica. This vineyard region includes borders of Babusnica vineyards, even though it is physically separated vineyard.

1.7. Nišavski rejon - Nišava

Vineyard expands from 43° 18' geographic latitude on north to 42° 58' geographic latitude on south. It is mostly located on altitudes of 250 m to 800 m. Area covered in vineyards though is mostly located on altitudes of 320 m to 550 m. region is characterized by steep, medium steep, and gentle slopes where vineyards are grown (south and south east expositions).

Topographic – relief characteristics of this region are as follows: on the north side there are mountains of Svrljiske Planine (1334 m), and on the north east side is mountain Vidlic (1413 m). On the south side is mountain Vlaska Planina (1443 m), while on south west mountain Suva Planina (1809 m) (they belong to the Balkan mountain). Central part is characterized by mountain Belava (946 m). Hiolly terrains are predominant in central and south part of the region, as well as in Babusnica vineyards, intersected by rivers; flat and gently hilly terrains are found in the valley of the river Nisava.

In hilly belt of the region there are forests of common oak, Turkey oak, and other, while in lower belt beech forests can be found. Other than these forests, landscape is also characterized by  orchards and spread out estates raised on slopes of the mountains on the north and south side. Types of soil of this region are vertisol and fluvisol. More rare the following soils can also be found: rendzina, sirozem and litosol on carbonate substrates, euteric cambisol, calcomelanosol, sirozem, litosol on limestone, luvisol and soils in leaching, coluvium, pseudoglay and other types of soil.
