1.8. Leskovac region - Leskovac

Leskovac region includes vineyard terrains located all around the city of Leskovac, in vast  mountain area of upper basin of river Juzna Morava and its tributaries (like Pusta Reka, Veternica and Vlasina). It includes territories in the municipalities of Doljevac, Gadzin Han, Leskovac, Bojnik, Lebane and Vlasotince.

1.8. Leskovački rejon - Leskovac

Vineyard expands from 43° 14' geographic latitude on north to 42° 51' geographic latitude on south. It is mostly situated on altitudes from 250 m to 450 m. Area where vineyards are grown are on altitudes of 250 m to 400 m. Altitude, or slope of the terrain gradually decreases going from outer edges toward central parts of the region, and it's characterized by mildly steep to gentle slopes of the terrain where vineyards are grown.

Region is characterized by different expositions of the terrain. Vineyards are mostly located on south, south east, and east expositions, as well as on top of the hills and raised flats.

Types of soil of this area are: euteric cambisol, fluvisol, vertisol, and rarely other types of soil. Topographic - relief characteristics of this region are as follows: on the north mountain Selicevica (903 m); on north east valley of Babicka Gora (1057 m) and mountain Suva Planina (1809 m); on south east side there is mountain Cemernik (1638 m), and on south side mountain Kukavica (1442 m); on the west side is located mountain Radan (1409 m). These mountain all belong to the Rhodope mountain, except for mountain Suva Planina which belongs to Balkan mountains. Massifs and slopes of these mountains, as well as hilly terrains on the far west, north east, and east of the region, are intersected by rivers, and give this region specific landscape. Central part is more gently hilly, and with flat terrains.

Leskovac region includes Leskovac valley through which river Juzna Morava flows with its tributaries: Pusta Reka, Jablanica, Veternica and Vlasina. Near their basins there are mostly misty, flood forests of red oak,  ash,  alder, and other trees. On other,  hilly parts of the region, there are mostly forests of common oak and Turkey oak. In north east part, on the slopes of mountain Suva Planina, there are predominantly mountain beech forests. Characteristics of the landscape are also orchards grown mostly on mountain terrains, while in valleys and near settlements there are plots with vegetables and green houses.
