Apatin
Apatin municipality located in the territory of Vojvodina, at the area of western Backa. It borders with the territory of the municipalities of Sombor and Odzaci. City of Apatin, and the territory of the municipality lie in the northern part of the Danube River, on its course through Serbia.
Extremely convenient location of Apatin attracted people in the past to inhabit this area. At the time of the Roman conquest the settlement was turned into a military drench, and had a significant role in the defense of the Roman province of Pannonia. Apatin was first mentioned in written sources dating from the 1011, and was named after the Abbey of Kalocsa diocese. It was mentioned as a possession of Despot Stefan Lazarevic, and fel under the Turkish rule in 1541. It was ruled by the Turkish for 140 years. Especially significant are Town Hall, castle Fernbah, and Apatin brewery. Brewery was established in 1756, and it is one of the oldest breweries in the country.
The municipality of Apatin has a large number of churches: Assembly of the Holy Apostles, Assumption of Mary, Heart of Jesus, St. Lawrence, Great George the St., St. Anne, and St. Stefan.
Tourism events: Apatin’s fishing night (an event with fish food specialties), Lika -around (knight sports games), May ceremony in Prigrevica (entertainment and sports content), Grape ball in Sonta (event on the occasion of the completion of the harvest of grapes), and others.
