Bajina Basta

Bajina Basta is located in western Serbia, on the right bank of the Drina River. It was founded at an expansion of the Drina river, and on the mountain slopes of Tara.


Not much is known about this area. We know that the city received its name after the landowner Baja, and that Pljeskovo village existed in the area of the modern city during the Turks. Bajina Basta became town during the time of Prince Milos in 1858.

Most distinctive values of this area are: the Tara mountain national park, the river Drina canyon with Visegrad and accumulation lakes Perucac and Zaovine.
Cultural and historical monuments are Raca monastery (XII century), church, log cabin Dubu (eighteenth century), Solotuski medieval city, and a number of prehistoric sites and modern memorials.
