The oldest data on the Serbs in this region go back to the time of Byzantine emperor Heraclius (610-641). Cacak as we call it today was first mentioned in 1404. After the fall of Serbia under Turkish rule in1459, Cacak was said to be the seat of the Qadi in the later documents. The city was liberated in the First Serbian Uprising in 1804. On the site of today’s Caca, the Roman settlement once was, as is showed by the remains of Roman baths, and Jupiter monuments, and within Cacak municipaliy numerous ‘villae rustica’, agricultural estates from the Roman times were discovered. In the vicinity of Cacak, on Jelica, a big archeological site Gradina is located.

When one goes towards Uzice from Cacak they will see protected natural beauty, Ovcar-Kablar gorge with Serbian Holy Mountain, which consists of a dozen monasteries and churches.

For a city that has such an environment and wooded slopes of the mountains Jelica, Vujan, Ovcar, and Kablar, we can say that is has a surplus of natural beauty and monuments that can be enjoyed. Special pearls are monasteries of Ovcar-Kablar Gorge, and Grujin meadows located on the slopes of Jelica. Of course, there are unavoidable medicinal water of Ovcar Spa, Slatinska Spa, and Gornja Trepca, famous for its mineral water that springs from the depths of the ground in Europe called "Atomic Spa.
