Todor's Tower, Tower of the Todor of Stalac

Todor’s Tower, Tower of the Todor of Stalac is medieval fortress near Stalac, of whom today only ruins of Donjon survive, which is why the whole site is usually called a ‘tower’. It is believed that the tower was built by duke Lazar Hrebeljanovic, on the the remnants of an ancient city, and a church in the vicinity, of which now only the bell in the churchyard is left. The bell was made in 1384 in Milano.

Todor’s tower itself is situated on the slopes of the Mojsinj mountains (Serbian Athos), where once 70 Serbian churches and monasteries were. The tragic end of Todor of Stalac and his love Jelica is described in the folk song "The death of Duke Prijezda’. Todor decided to jump with Jelica in the river South Morava, which at the time ran under the tower itself, so they would not fall into the hands of the Turks. According to legend, the Turks entered the city following geese that went out to Morava through the hidden opening in the wall around the tower. Travelers from the fifteenth century noted that the floor of the city at that time was anchored over 100 yawls. Only one well preserved wall remains of the tower.
